UCF has been unseated as the top team in our rankings
It has felt like a long seven weeks for the Florida Gators.
The Gators struggled early, including their first loss to the Kentucky Wildcats since the Reagan Administration. Questions were asked about new coach Dan Mullen. Questions were asked about quarterback Feleipe Franks.
From there, Florida began to rally. The Gators have stormed up the SEC East standings and up the Florida Rankings ever since. Now, despite Central Florida continuing to bury opponents, the Gators have claimed the top spot in the state.
The rankings this week:
1: University of Florida Gators – “UF has moved ahead of UCF, it was only a matter of time until the Gators reached the pinnacle of the rankings.” -Steve Kinsella
2: University of Central Florida Knights – “As long as Florida keeps winning, it becomes harder and harder to overlook UCF’s weaker schedule. No, they cannot just send it back and request a better one, but while the Knights have looked great in their undefeated season so far, they’re not the school with the biggest win in the state, and it’s hard to call them the best team in the state.” -Tim Williams
3: University of South Florida Bulls – “Certainly no lack of drama with fourth-quarter comebacks. With the conference schedule about to hit hard the Bulls need to be consistently stronger from the get-go.“ -Tom Layberger
4: University of Miami Hurricanes – “Miami usually struggles in the games post FSU. This year it caught up with them as they lose to Virginia on the road. New starting QB N’Kosi Perry struggled early, which forced head coach Mark Richt to pull the redshirt freshman in favor of Malik Rosier. Now the Hurricanes have reopened the quarterback controversy.” -Jaquan Cathey
5: Florida State Seminoles – “FSU coming off the bye has to focus on finishing and fixing the small nitty gritty mistakes that have been the difference in games this season.” -Tim Mallard
6: Florida International Panthers – “I really was tempted to put the owls ahead of FSU. Butch Davis got a big win against Middle Tennessee State this week and suddenly they are in the hunt for Conference USA and that is not a bad thing!” -Jim Williams
7: Florida Atlantic Owls – “Lane Kiffin’s team had plenty to work on during the bye before traveling to Marshall on Saturday. It’s the type of conference opponent that won’t let the Owls get away with any sloppiness.” -Tom Layberger
