Bill Bender of Sporting News talks Championship Week, Meyer
It has been a long season for the Ohio State Buckeyes and Urban Meyer, but they still could get into the College Football Playoff with a win and some help. First they need to take care of business in the Big Ten Championship against Northwestern, which can be heard on our own Sports Talk 1040 The Team Tampa Bay on Saturday night. Then they need Georgia and possibly Oklahoma to take losses in their respective championship games. If all of that breaks their way, Bill Bender of Sporting News suggests that they’ll be a shoo-in for the College Football Playoff.
Tyler Bradley asks Bill about Urban Meyer’s future. The Buckeyes coach and former Florida Gators head man has faced health problems and scrutiny about his assistant coaches in the past year, so while Ohio State has been tremendously successful under the coach it is worth asking how long it will last.
Meanwhile, Georgia has a simple task: Beat a historic Alabama team, and they’re in the playoff. As good as Georgia is, just about anybody beating the Crimson Tide is a stretch to imagine, but Bender gives listeners a look at just how the Bulldogs might be able to pull off the upset. Could Georgia still get in just by making the game close? Bill also touches on UCF’s historic run and how McKenzie Milton’s injury likely slams the door shut on the Knights making the playoff in any scenario.
