UCF Separates Itself In Florida Rankings

Central Florida, Florida Atlantic the only teams in state to win over the weekend

It has been another long week for most of the college football fans here in the Sunshine State.

Florida took a surprising loss to Missouri.  Florida State took another tough loss as their season continues to unravel.  Miami fell on a sloppy field against Duke.  South Florida was hit hard by Tulane.  Florida International fell to Florida Atlantic.  Only FAU and Central Florida emerged with a win over the weekend when it comes to Florida’s schools.

This made our state rankings this week an open-and-shut case.  Florida’s only undefeated team is UCF, and weak schedule aside there is nobody who can put together a resume to challenge the Knights at the top of the state.

For the first time in our short Florida polling, UCF was a unanimous number one with our voters.  Even those who have punished the Knights for their weaker schedule and sometimes less-than-convincing victories had to put UCF at the top of their ballots this week, the strongest position the kids from Orlando have had yet.

The rankings

1:  University of Central Florida Knights – The schedule does not terrify anybody, and some of the wins have come by less than impressive margins.  Still, undefeated is undefeated, the sweetest word in all of football.  The Knights continue to lead the pack and solidify their lead, though it’s hard to understate how much a single loss would change their fortunes.

2:  University of Florida Gators – It’s one thing to lose a game Florida was absolutely supposed to win, but quite another to do so and still not move a bit in our poll.  That shows how bad of a week it was for the college football programs of Florida.

3:  University of Miami Hurricanes – “Miami has gone from potential playoff team to barely bowl eligible in a matter of weeks.  Due to the quarterback situation, the Hurricanes will have a tough time finding their sixth win of the season.  Tragic.”  -Jaquan Cathey

4:  Florida International Panthers – FIU manages to rise in the rankings despite a large loss to rival FAU.  With just three losses, Butch Davis has the program pointed in the right direction, but three losses in Conference USA are still a lot.

5:  University of South Florida Bulls – What looked like a dream season has turned into a rude awakening for the Bulls after getting thrashed at home by Tulane.  The biggest source of hope for their fans now?  Beating UCF on Black Friday.

6:  Florida State Seminoles – “The Seminoles still have a chance to keep their bowl streak alive sitting at 4-5 with three games left to play. But it won’t be a cake walk to say the least. James Blackman moved the ball around nicely throwing for over 400 yards and 4 touchdowns. Penalties constantly killed FSUs momentum on both sides of the ball. The Noles have to clean it up this week as they travel to South Bend next weekend to face off with Notre Dame.” –Timothy Mallard

7:  Florida Atlantic Owls – For a team that wins, and wins big over a rival, to drop to the bottom spot in our rankings comes as a bit of a shock, but this year has been about as much of a disaster for Lane Kiffin as it has been for Willie Taggart so far.
