Tampa police are investigating a car that was involved in an accident registered to Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver DeSean Jackson.
The incident happened Sunday night. Upon a search, the car was found to contain 6.3 grams of marijuana and two .38 caliber hollow-point bullets, according to NFL.com.
The crash occurred at the International Mall on Westshore Boulevard. An abandoned Chevy Silverado was found and it was apparent the vehicle lefet the roadway and hit a tree.
According to police, the driver left the scene. Cops got in contact with Jackson, who responded to the scene at a later time. According to the report, Jackson wasn’t cooperating initially, then gave officers the name of the driver. He didn’t help officers get the driver back to the scene for investigation.
“It was a friend of DeSean’s who borrowed his car while he was out of town,” Denise White, a representative for Jackson, told NFL.com. “None of what was in the car was his obviously. He’s dealing with the person that was using it without his knowledge privately. The incident is being handled.”
“We are aware of a one-car accident involving a vehicle registered to DeSean Jackson on the night of Dec. 24,” the Buccaneers said in a statement. “Our understanding is that DeSean has been in contact with authorities and is cooperating with the investigation.”
Possession in Florida of less than 20 grams of marijuana is a misdemeanor. The vehicle was impounded.
