Magic scrap by a struggling Dallas 111-106

Orlando- Pure Magic in the city of Orlando with their 11th win in 16 games after Friday nights battle against a struggling Dallas Mavericks 111-106. The race is on to plant a seat in the 2019 NBA playoff. The Magic have not made it to the play-offs since 2012 but this year may be a change of events in Orlando.

6th man, Terrence Ross scored 22 and Nikola Vucevic added 20 points and 13 rebounds to the stat sheet. Double zero Aaron Gordon (Guard) hit a career milestone of scoring 4,000 points in his NBA career while throwing up 18 for the Magic with 3 blocks and had this to say about the victory at home.

“We just played sloppy, defensively, offensively, taking care of the ball,” expressed Magic guard Aaron Gordon. “We just weren’t locked in. He (Clifford) expects more from us and we expect more from ourselves.”

Head coach Steve Clifford, (Magic) had much to comment on the win at home. “If we played that same team tomorrow the same way we played, we would lose to that team by fifteen points. We got out played” Clifford expressed his disappointment despite the win at home. “They got everything they wanted the whole game and we were just not interested in playing defense, especially when we were up.”

The Magic lead the Mavericks 92-73 going into the fourth but their defense began to slack allowing Rookie Luka Doncic and retiring All-star Dirk Nowitzki to turn up the heat at the Amway. The Mavericks went on a 16-7 run in the final minutes of the fourth with Dirk scoring 9 points tying his season high with 15 points for the game. The Rookie hit 3 key shoots in the fourth and added 24 points to the score board for the Mavericks.

“We won tonight, but it wasn’t a good enough performance,” Evan Fournier said. “It wasn’t satisfying. It doesn’t feel like a great win. We have to play better.”

Orlando shoot for .483 percent overall against Dallas with .472 percent. What made a major impact was the 3-point shooting. Magic shoot for .483 percent compared to the Mavericks who only shoot for .292 percent behind the 3-point line.

“When you get down 19 at any point in an NBA game, the odds of coming back and winning are very difficult, especially on the road,” Dallas coach Rick Carlisle said. “You’ve either got to play close or play from the front. We had a poor start. Second half we did better, but we’ve got to stay in the fight.”
