During Tuesday night’s annual All-Star game, there was plenty of buzz about Yankees great Derek Jeter and how it will be his 14th and final All-Star game. Yet, there was no mention whatsoever by the FOX broadcasters or a tribute to the San Diego Padres Hall of Famer, Tony Gwynn, as Yahoo Sports’ Kevin Kaduk points out.
Gwynn died at the young age of 54 a month ago today from cancer. He blamed his cancer on chewing tobacco during his career. Gwynn made 15 total All-Star appearances, all but one year from 1984 to 1999. He was loved by many baseball fans long after his retirement and after his death on June 16.
Outraged fans took to Twitter to rage at MLB and FOX Sports about the lack of recognition.
A game long shrine building to Jeter, but couldn't take a minute out to honor The greatness of Tony Gwynn , come on

Hey @MLB that Tony Gwynn tribute during the #ASG was almost as good as the Jeter tribute.
Just kidding. You didn't have a Gwynn tribute.

The #ASG telecast spent 10 minutes w/ some lady doing a Bob Dylan cover & introducing 30 random teachers but never mentioned Tony Gwynn.

I didn't watch the ASG, but I see they didn't mention Tony Gwynn. It's things like this that makes me not watch. What a joke @MLBONFOX

Regardless of FOX Sports and MLB’s forgetfulness, the Padres made a splash of their own, without the use of any actual words.
