CBS Sports today announced that it is “going in a different direction” when it comes to the Thursday Night Football theme. Rihanna and Don Cheadle were supposed to be featured in the opening but CBS Sports is pulling back due to a tweet by Rihanna.
As for the reason the theme got pulled?
“It’s important to realize we are not overreacting to this story but it is as big a story as has faced the NFL,” McManus told Richard Deitsch of SI.com on September 11 (via CBS). “We thought journalistically and from a tone standpoint, we needed to have the appropriate tone and coverage. A lot of the production elements we wanted in the show are being eliminated because of time or tone.”
The two were supposed to be featured as the Week 1 Thursday Night Football theme/opener but CBS pushed that back a week. Now they want to push it back another week. And Rihanna isn’t happy. She tweeted this out Tuesday morning:
CBS you pulled my song last week, now you wanna slide it back in this Thursday? NO, Fuck you! Y'all are sad for penalizing me for this.

CBS returned the favor just hours after her tweet blasting the company and said they won’t feature her at all.
“Beginning this Thursday, we will be moving in a different direction with some elements of our Thursday Night Football open,” said CBS senior vice president of communications Jen Sabatelle in a statement. “We will be using our newly created Thursday Night Football theme music to open our game broadcast.”
