Andrea Adelson, ESPN.com’s ACC Blogger, On Winston’s Goodbye
ESPN.com’s ACC blogger Andrea Adelson is with Tuck and O’Neill today to talk FSU following Jameis Winston’s announcement to enter the 2015 NFL Draft. Adelson also mentioned the benefits the Noles have going forward and the success of the ACC conference as a whole this season.
How does he (Jameis Winston) compare to recent Florida State quarterbacks and other college quarterbacks that you’ve watched as far as NFL readiness?
“Certainly I think he’s better than the Florida State quarterbacks that have come before him. I would take him over EJ Manuel and Christian Ponder in a heartbeat and those 2 guys went in the first round. The only issue for is can he put it all together? We’ve seen what he can do on the field. I think he’s more NFL ready than Marcus Mariota only because he’s doing NFL concepts in that offense right now… But I still have questions as to if he can put everything together and play to his potential. There’s going to be more temptation now that he’s on the NFL level.”
Jimbo Fisher has the Noles in a great spot. But how do you go about replacing a Heisman Trophy winning quarterback?
“I don’t think Jimbo Fisher has the answer to that yet. I don’t think you can ever replace a player of his talent or caliber. Certainly they have other 4 and 5 stars on the roster but I don’t think they have anybody that they believe is the next Jameis Winston. So now there’s Sean Maguire who won against Clemson… They have JJ Cosentino. There’s rumors there about Braxton Miller transferring. So there are some options.”
