Florida linebacker Dustin Doe was arrested yesterday and charged with driving with a suspended license, according to the Florida Times-Union. Not a terribly big deal, except that these kinds of issues keep popping up for the defending national champions.
The Orlando Sentinel has chronicled 24 Gators having run-ins with the police since 2005. Accordingly, Doe won’t be in uniform when the team begins practice Aug. 6.
“Dustin had been suspended from team activities while resolving his parking ticket issues and driving with a suspended license,” Florida coach Urban Meyer said in a statement.
According to a police report, Doe was booked Thursday because he decided to drive a white Dodge Magnum after being issued a driving with a suspended license citation earlier in the day. Doe told police he drove again because he needed to attend a tutoring session.
Doe started 12 games last season. The Gainesville Sun says Doe has been cited for driving with a suspended license at least 3 times since February.
