The Power Hour: Cary Elwes Talks Book Tour, Andre The Giant On Set, and Making the Film So Many Years Ago

Cary Elwes

The Power Hour crew, Matthew Sardo and Amanda Borges, spoke with actor and author Cary Elwes about the making of his famous film, The Princess Bride, and his new book that re-lives the movie. When asked about his favorite part of filming so many years ago, he was quick to talk about Andre The Giant.

“My favorite is my first day working with Andre The Giant…I have to come to from being mostly dead…He didn’t finish his line, he barely got through when he let out the most extraordinary, giant, mammoth fart that you’ve ever heard in your whole life. I mean a 15-second emission of gas that…the set rumbled! Everyone thought it was like an earthquake.”

You were 23 when you filmed this movie. Did you ever think it would turn into what it did?

“No. None of us knew. We knew we were making something sweet and fun and we enjoyed the journey, which is why I wrote this book. But we didn’t know, you never know how the movie your making is going to do.”
