Lightning’s Vasilevskiy Voted Vezina Trophy Finalist

Tampa, Fla – Andrei Vasilevskiy of the Tampa Bay Lightning along with Connor Hellebuyck of the Winnipeg Jets and Tuukka Rask of the Boston Bruins are the three finalist for the 2019-20 Vezina Trophy awarded “to the goaltender adjudged to be the best at his position,” the National Hockey League announced today.

Per the NHL Press Release, NHL general manager’s submitted ballots for the Vezina Trophy after the conclusion of the regular season, with the top three vote-getters designated as finalists. The winner will be revealed during the Conference Finals, with the exact date, format and time to be determined.

Last sesaon, Vasilevskiy became the first Tampa Bay Lightning net minder to win the award (full list here) garnering a near-unanimous 28 first-place votes cast by the 31 NHL general managers. In 2018-19 Vasilevskiy posted a League-leading 39 wins in 53 games as the Lightning won 62 games earning the first President’s Trophy in franchise history.

Vasilevskiy has been as dominant this season as last posting a NHL-best 35 wins (35-14-3, 2.56 GAA, .917 SV%). His season was highlighted by a 21-game point streak (19-0-2) over a 2-month period. He won 21 of his last 27 starts (21-5-1) from December 23 through the pause in play on March 11th.

This season marks the third consecutive season that he’s been a finalist for the Vezina.
