Montreal rolls past Orlando City 3-1

ORLANDO – There are some days when everything goes right and Saturday it was Ignacio Piatti who had one of those very special days. It was his strong right foot that stuck not once but twice leading an impressive Montreal Impact team to victory over a feisty Orlando City team 3-1.

“I think we played quite well and we reacted well from the last game we played [a loss] in Houston,” Impact defender Bacary Sagna said.

“It was really important for the team because we’re not going to play for two weeks. But we had a good reaction and we had good team spirit and we had good behavior on the pitch because we wanted to play well as a team. To stay to compact and score goals and we managed to do it. So we need to keep going that way and working hard.”

Things got going early as Montreal put the first tally on the board as Orji Owonkwok in the 14th minute getting his first MLS goal.

One minute later Piatti took over as he put Montreal up 2-0 with a wicked shot that came to rest in the back of the Lions net. He took advantage of Orlando defender Shane O’Neill misplayed a pass following the kickoff.

Then as the clock wound down at the 80-minute mark Piatti made a slick move to get him past the Lions Sacha Kljestan. His strong right foot deposited his second goal of the day in the back of the net and Montreal stood at 3-0.

The Lions were determined not to be shutout as Dom Dwyer came through in the 91st minute with brilliant shot that found the back of the net.

Next up for Orlando City is a road date with New York Red Bulls Saturday, March 23rd at 7:30 pm. The game can be seen on MY 65, ESPN + and YouTube TV. Then they end March on the 31st with a game in the Nation’s Capital against DC United with a 6:30 pm start time and airing on FS1.

They will return home the first week of April 6th with a 7:30 pm date with Colorado.
