According to Josh Tolentino (Twitter) of The Athletic, the Tampa Bay Rays are promoting shortstop Wander Franco from their Class A affiliate Bowling Green Hot Rods to their High-A affiliate Charlotte Stone Crabs.
Franco entered the seasons ranked as the #4 prospect by Baseball America, #13 on MLB Pipeline, and #10 by Baseball Prospectus but after hitting .318/.390/.506 in 272 plate appearances with the Hot Rods and with graduations by other prospects in front of him, he has now been named baseball’s top prospect by both Baseball America and the MLB Pipeline.
The swith-hitting Franco, 18, signed with Tampa Bay in July of 2017. He will report to the Crabs on Tuesday while the team is in Fort Myers taking on the Miracle. The Crabs will play three against Fort Myers and three at Palm Beach against the Cardinals to end June.
The Crabs return home to Port Charlotte to take on the St. Lucie Mets on July 1st for a three game series before heading out on the road starting with four games at Jupiter.
The Crabs will get closer to Tampa Bay on starting July 8th when they take on the Florida Fire Frogs in Kissimmee from July 8th through 11th.
They return to the Tampa Bay area beginning on July 25th for a four game series in Clearwater against the Threshers and Bradenton against the Marauders from July 30 to August 1st.
The Crabs will visit the Tampa Bay are twice in the month of August with a four game series against the Tampa Yankees on August 8th through 11th and against the Dunedin Blue Jays from August 30 through September 1st to end the regular season.
