Joey Butler Provides Thump In Middle Of Lineup

Joey Butler stepped to the plate in the second inning with Asdrubal Cabrera on first base and the Tampa Bay Rays holding a 2-0 lead over Clay Buchholz.  Butler fouled off a Buchholz changeup for strike one but drove an 80 mile per hour change up over the green monster in left for his first major league home run putting the Rays up on the Sox 4-0.

Butler made his major league debut after spending almost six full seasons in the minors, but after just a combined fourteen games between the Texas Rangers and St. Louis Cardinals he was off to Japan. The Cardinals sold Butler’s contract to the Orix Buffaloes, where he played just 21 games last season.

Heading into this season, Joey Butler was eager to get back to the big leagues and he chose the Rays for that very reason.
