Tampa Bay Rays and The Lease: Where To Turn Now?

Tampa_Bay_Rays_2013The Tampa Bay market has been a baseball trouble spot for more than three decades.

At one time or another, the Minnesota Twins, the Texas Rangers, the San Francisco Giants, the Seattle Mariners and the Chicago White Sox ownership kicked the tires to find out about the market but decided to stay in their towns.

Major League Baseball was sued and it was Frank Morsani who claimed that the MLB promised him a franchise and he never got one. The suit was settled in 2003.  Major League Baseball finally arrived in St. Petersburg in 1998, but the relationship between the market and the franchise has been rocky.

The “St. Petersburg dome” was outdated by the time the first pitch was thrown in the facility.
