My wife has often said the Farrelly Brothers secretly watched me as a Rays fan before deciding to produce Fever Pitch with the Red Sox angle for Jimmy Fallon. My wife met me in January 2002 and thought she had found the perfect caring and thoughtful man that enjoyed movies, cooking, and picnics. Then, the 2002 baseball season started. She is a life long Cubs fan so she was familiar with following a losing team but she still could not understand why I wanted to watch the Devil Rays play on TV much less drive two hours over to, “that dump in St. Pete.”
Over the years, she has come to accept my obsession with the Rays and my other obsession, fantasy baseball. Fantasy baseball is where I got my foothold into baseball writing as I covered the minor leagues for RotoJunkie.com. RotoJunkie was eventually pulled into the Fanball.com family where my writing responsibilities expanded to covering the Rays at DockoftheRays.com. I’ve also helped Tommy Rancel and the crew at Draysbay.com produce their last three season preview eBooks. In that time, I have written more articles than I can count, been on the radio hundreds of times, and was even a finalist for Fantasy Sports Writer of the Year in 2005.
One thing you will learn about me quickly is that I love to talk about the Rays. If you follow me on Facebook, or Twitter (@jasoncollette), you will get all of the Rays baseball talk you can handle all throughout the year as I produce a lot of content both during the season and in the off-season. I will have unique content here on Tuesdays and Thursdays each week but also drop by DockoftheRays.com and TheProcessReport.com for my other work throughout the week.
If there is anything you would like myself or Rancel to cover, drop me an email at jcollette@espn1040.com because both of us want this new feature on the site to be customer-driven. You tell us what you want us to cover and we will get it done.
