Giuliana Rancic: I Was Fired From E! Before I Got Hired

Rejection Doesn’t Define Your Future

Giuliana Rancic

When it comes to interviewing celebrities, spreading the love, and overcoming life’s obstacles, E! News Host and Red Carpet CorrespondentĀ Giuliana Rancic is a pro. She has her dream job, she’s beaten breast cancer, and she always sets out to make people laugh.

I had a chance to talk with her about her new book, Going Off Script: How I Survived a Crazy Childhood, Cancer, and Clooney’s 32 On-Screen Rejections, and she shared with me her reasons for detailing her life at this point in her career.

“You know, I started the book about a year ago, not having any idea that these more recent headlines would have been timed around the book’s release. But, that’s what happens. You write a book, and what comes with that territory of writing a book is the headlines. They are gonna come out. You’re gonna have to think about things that are personal and intimate, but it’s okay. I’m sharing my truth and it just felt like the right time to do it because I’ve been through a lot, you know?”

Rancic went on to discuss her battle with breast cancer, infertility, and her difficult childhood. In addition to health scares, Rancic has experienced plenty of rejection in her career. She gave really amazing advice for those who are discouraged by setbacks.

“I want people to know that even if you have a setback, you can always make a comeback and usually the comeback is bigger and better.”

Rancic told me a story, that I hadn’t previously known about. She told me that her dream was to work at E! and she finally got the chance, but blew it. She was fired before she even got hired. Months later, she got a call saying that they changed their minds about her. She says that breaking the rules and “going off script” is actually what landed her the role that she still has today.
