Conor McGregor Appears In Court

McGregor’s Hearing Moved To July 26th

Conor McGregor spent more time in a courtroom today than he spent inside the octagon in the past year. McGregor’s court hearing was like many of his past fights: quick.

The former UFC lightweight champion’s hearing lasted a little over a minute with the announcement being made his next hearing will be on July 26th.  McGregor spoke to the press briefly afterwards which can be seen below via the Twitter of Chisanga Malata.

The new date in July gives McGregor’s legal team more time to work on a plea deal for the charges, which include two felony counts of criminal mischief.  How did we get here?

McGregor arrived at the Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn, NY days before UFC 223 and that’s when chaos took place.

According to multiple reports, McGregor and several of his teammates and coaches ran into the venue, throwing chairs, garbage cans and bike racks at a bus with fighters on it.  The video below shows the bus having objects throwing at it via TMZSports’ YouTube Page.

McGregor was charged by the New York police with one count of felony criminal mischief and three counts of misdemeanor assault.

Three fights from UFC 223 were called off due to the incident.  A lightweight bout between Anthony Pettis and Michael Chiesa was cancelled after Chiesa got cut from the dolly getting thrown through his window.   Flyweight Ray Borg and Brandon Moreno also had their fight scrapped after Borg got glass in his eye.  Lastly, featherweights Artem Lobov and Alex Caraces were supposed to fight, but Lobov was pulled from the card after being involved in attacking the bus.

It appeared McGregor was looking for Khabib Nurmagomedov, who had confronted Lobov earlier in the week over comments he had made in the media.

McGregor hasn’t fought in the octagon since November 2016 and hasn’t fought at all since he stepped into the boxing ring with Floyd Mayweather last August.  Dana White said this past weekend Nurmagomedov, who is the current lightweight champion, will be McGregor’s next fight.  White plans to meet with McGregor on Monday to discuss his future.
