No Decision on Starter for Bowl Game

USF Head Coach Skip Holtz has not yet named a starter for Friday’s Meineke Car Care Bowl at the QB position. This is no surprise as it forces the Clemson defense to prepare for 2 different styles of signal callers, just as Clemson is doing to the Bulls with Kyle Parker and Tajh Boyd.

I expect Sophomore BJ Daniels to get the start in this game as he did not miss the final 6 quarters of the season due to performance but instead because of a leg/thigh injury. The key for Daniels is his mobility in the pocket which will be necessary against the Clemson defensive front 7, namely Nagurski Award Winner Da’Quan Bowers. This will force the Tiger defense to respect Daniels scrambling ability and keep from blitzing the house each down.

No matter who gets the start, both players will see the field and who ever has the hot hand will likely see more snaps over the course of the bowl match up in Charlotte.

Coach Holtz has stated that Eveld’s and Daniels performance in this game will not have a significant impact on the QB competition for next season, but the confidence gained if one is more effective than the other could be an advantage going into spring ball.
