After a strong AAU season with Nike South Beach Tampa Prep Junior SG Jaren Phillips has been soaring up the rankings. In a recent ESPN High School Basketball, the junior guard was ranked #6 in the State of Florida.
Some of the strengths of the 6’4 Junior SG is his physical build, body control, versatility as a scorer and overall feel for the game.
The AAU Organization, Nike South Beach is an EYBL participant that competes against other Nike EYBL teams from all over the country in EYBL events that take place in cities such as Hampton, VA, Atlanta, GA and Los Angeles, CA. Although the team itself struggled in the EYBL circuit, Phillips was able to garner some attention from scouts and coaches from a lot of Division 1 programs with his play.
Phillips is currently being looked at by Virginia Tech, West Virginia, UMass and getting calls from other schools.
Heading into his junior season at Tampa Prep, the SG looks to help lead the Terrapins back to Lakeland, FL for States. Along with Senior Trey Sibert big man and a handful of promising up and coming Sophomores, Phillips and the Terrapins will be one of the top teams in the county with the potential to be one of the stronger teams in the state of their class.
The Terrapins finished as one of the top teams in the SEBA Summer League that took place in June along with teams such as Jesuit, Sickles, Berkeley Prep Tampa Catholic, Plant and Wharton.
