There has been some talk that Florida Panthers ownership could sell the NHL to Quebec interests, under the right set of circumstances.
But upon a closer inspection, Quebec City might not be a panacea for the the league. The NHL is not immune to market forces which can change in the blink of an eye. A few years ago, the Canadian dollar was worth more than the greenback but there has been a dramatic shift and NHL Canadian teams may be feeling that shift.
The last time the loonie sunk, the NHL lost two Canadian franchises and three others were subsidized, Calgary, Edmonton and Ottawa over objections by the National Hockey League Players Association which wanted the economically struggling Canadian teams to relocate to what the NHLPA felt was more lucrative US cities.
