Panthers Rout Leafs, Best Start in Years

TORONTO (AP) — The Florida Panthers took advantage of shaky Maple Leafs goalie Jonas Gustavsson and routed Toronto 5-1 on Tuesday night.

Jack Skille, Marco Sturm, Tomas Kopecky, Sean Bergenheim and Shawn Matthias had the goals for Florida (7-4-3), off to its best start since the 1999-2000 season.

The Maple Leafs, struggling without injured goalie James Reimer, were booed by the home fans for the second straight game after Gustavsson surrendered three soft goals.

Phil Kessel scored Toronto’s lone goal.

Reimer has missed eight games because of concussion symptoms following a hit by Montreal’s Brian Gionta on Oct. 22. There is no timetable for Reimer’s return.
