The University of South Florida Bulls beat the University of Connecticut Huskies to move to 4-4 on the season and stay alive in the hunt for a bowl game.

The Bulls went down 21-10 but mounted an 11-point comeback in the second half to get the crucial win. USF put up 14 unanswered points and sealed the win late after a Ta’Quan Roberson fumble stunted a Uconn drive.

The Bull started the scoring in the first quarter on a touchdown run by Nay’Quan Wright at the goal line. Wright had a massive game for the Bulls, tallying 186 yards and two touchdowns against the Huskies. However, it would be all Huskies until the fourth quarter.

In the second quarter, Roberson would have two touchdowns, one by the ground and one by air. The only thing that allowed the Bulls to break up the scoring was a field goal. Entering halftime, the score was 14-10 favoring the Huskies.

After a scoreless third quarter, the Huskies came out swinging in the fourth. Camryn Edwards did his best to match the stellar performance of Wright and scored a 33-yard rushing touchdown to put the Huskies up 21-10 early in the fourth quarter. Edwards would finish the day with 149 yards and one touchdown.

Things were looking bleak for Alex Golesh and the Bulls, but they fought back. Byrum Brown and Wright each had rushing touchdowns that allowed the Bulls to climb back into this game and take the lead. This game was won on the ground after a four-yard rushing touchdown by Wright put the Bulls up for good.

This win means the Bulls have to win two more games to become bowl-eligible, rather than three. The last time USF won more than four games was in 2018 under Charlie Strong.n

What comes next?

The Bulls have a bye week coming up but will have their work cut out for them as they travel to Memphis in the week after to take on the 5-2 Tigers.
