Round 3 of the Sony Open is underway from Waialae Country Club in Honolulu, Hawaii. There is currently a 5-way tie for first place at -9, after two days of play. The cut line yesterday claimed some big names, such as guys like Collin Morikawa, Keegan Bradley, and Tony Finau, who failed to make it. However, the cut line did deliver some stories, with Vijay Singh at 62 becoming the oldest player to make a cut on Tour since Fred Couples in the 2023 Masters. William Mouw made the cut on the number with an eagle on 18 yesterday. Sahith Theegala was +6 at one point yesterday and came back to make the cut as well.

Live Updates following Sahith Theegala and Aaron Rai’s back nine- Day 3 Sony Open
I was able to finally catchup with them on the tee box of 15. Theegala has just birdied 14 and that puts him at -4 for the day and -5 for the tournament. Aaron Rai is -1 on the day and -2 for the tournament.
Hole 15: Par 4
Theegala: Drive is in the middle left of the fairway. His approach missed the green to the left and appeared to land in a bunker. It did land in the bunker. A decent shot out but still has a good bit of work left to do for the sand save. Runs the par putt by and that might slow some of his momentum. Makes the bogey putt.
Rai: Drive lands in the middle of the fairway is about 10 yards behind Theegala’s drive. Solid approach shot lands in the middle of the green short of the hole. Lengthy putt for birdie but is uphill the whole way. Left his birdie putt well short. It was uphill and into the wind so it slowed down a lot. Cleans up for par.
Through 15: Theegala -4, Rai -2
Hole 16: Par 4
Rai: His tee shot finds the middle fairway bunker. Hits the green out of the bunker, but it’s the front side so he will have a long birdie putt. Missed it’s by a good amount has about 5 feet for par. His par putt lips out. After the lip out he got fully set for his 2 foot bogey putt and makes it.
Theegala: His tee shot also finds the middle fairway bunker a couple yards behind Rai’s ball. Really good shot out of the bunker looks to be about pin high, should have solid look at birdie. Has 13’8” for birdie. Gave it a good run for a bounce back but missed it. Taps in for par.
Through 16: Theegala -4, Rai -1
Hole 17: Par 3
Theegala: Nasty kick right on his tee shot. Will be long and right and needs to get up and down for par. Landed in the bunker actually. Ran the bunker shot by. Has about 20 feet to convert the sand save. Missed it short but taps in for bogey on 17.
Rai: Tee shot was actually pretty good couldn’t see it land from the tee box. Has about 15 feet for birdie. Birdie putt lips out. That makes it back to back holes with a lip out for Rai. He does tap in for par.
Through 17: Theegala -3, Rai -1
Hole 18: Par 5
Rai: Drive is in the fairway on the right side. Approach shot hits the left side of the green. Will have a long putt, but a look for eagle nonetheless. Really good putt for eagle. It ended just right of the hole and he tapped in for birdie.
Theegala: His drive went a little bit further than Rai’s and is in the middle of the fairway. Approach shot is in line with the pin and long of it. Will have a good look at eagle with an uphill putt coming. Appeared displeased with his eagle putt but taps in for birdie.
After 18: Theegala -4, Rai -2
