Double Overtime Heartbreaker at Home for Bulls
The USF Bulls dropped a 109-106 decision to the UAB Blazers in a grueling double overtime battle on their home floor. The game featured more than 70 combined free throws and stretched deep into the night, testing both teams physically and mentally.
It marked USF’s first game of American Conference play, and despite the loss, the Bulls showed resilience and fire throughout.
Enis Lights Up the Scoreboard
Wes Enis delivered a sensational performance. He poured in 36 points and buried 10 three-pointers. Time after time, Enis answered pressure with confidence, knocking down critical shots when the Bulls needed them most.
His shooting kept USF alive across both overtime periods and gave the crowd plenty to roar about.
Nelson Dominates Both Ends
Izaiyah Nelson continued to set the tone with his physical presence. He anchored the defense while also producing 23 points and 11 rebounds. Nelson battled in the paint all night and controlled the glass with authority.
His effort reflected the Bulls’ overall intensity and commitment.
Brown’s Foul Trouble Shifts the Game
The turning point came when guard CJ Brown fouled out late in the game. Brown struggled to find his rhythm offensively, finishing with eight points on 3-of-12 shooting. Still, his absence loomed large.
USF missed his playmaking in the second overtime. Without his five assists on the floor, the offense stalled and struggled to generate clean looks.
UAB’s Bench Makes the Difference
UAB found its spark off the bench. Chance Westry delivered a massive performance, scoring 24 points and handing out six assists on an efficient 8-of-12 shooting night.
His impact shifted momentum and ultimately helped the Blazers survive the Bulls’ late pushes.
Effort Was There, Execution Fell Short
USF had plenty of positives to build on. The Bulls dominated the glass, out-rebounding UAB 61-49. They also shared the ball well, recording 22 assists as a team.
Ball security proved costly. USF committed 14 turnovers, nearly doubling UAB’s total of eight. Those extra possessions made the difference in a game decided by three points.
Looking Ahead to North Texas
The Bulls now head to Denton, Texas, to face the North Texas Mean Green on Wednesday. North Texas enters the matchup winless in conference play after losses to Tulsa and Memphis.
USF still controls its path forward. The talent is clear, and the effort remains consistent. If Brown stays on the floor, the outcome against UAB may have looked very different.
The response to this loss will define the coming weeks, especially with challenging conference matchups against Tulane, Memphis, and Tulsa still ahead.
