The NFL Has An Official “NFL” Home in London

The league is committed to playing two games a year at Tottenham Stadium through 2029.

There are quite a number of sports league-marketing partnerships that include the phrase official sponsor or something to that effect. Now there is a new phrase that seems to have been invented by the National Football League’s front office. In London, England, Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has been given official status as the Home of the NFL in the UK. The NFL will stage its second game in London this season at the stadium with the Baltimore Ravens playing the Tennessee Titans. By becoming the Home of the NFL in the UK, Tottenham will host at least two regular-season games every season through 2029. The Tottenham facility is the only NFL state-of-the-art stadium built to house NFL games outside of the United States. The NFL has been playing regular season games in London since 2007 with most of the games at Wembley Stadium. There have been three games at Twickenham Stadium.

The NFL allegedly pumps an awful lot of money into London’s economy and if you don’t believe that statement, all you have to do is ask the London Mayor Sadiq Khan about the value of having NFL games in his city. “London is the sporting capital of the world and this expanded partnership between Tottenham Hotspur and NFL is fantastic news for Tottenham and our city,” said Khan. “Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has fast become a beacon for world-class football and entertainment, boosting London’s local economy by over £300 million every year. With further NFL matches taking place at the stadium, sports fans everywhere will be able to enjoy even more of what our great capital has to offer.” More than £300 million pounds which is more than $371 million in US funds. The NFL wants pounds and euros hence the forays into Europe.
