Tampa, FL – Jared McCann scored the game winning goal in overtime as the Seattle Kraken defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning 4-3 on Monday night at Amalie arena.

Tanner Jeannot, Alex Barre-Boulet, and Brandon Hagel scored for the Lightning who despite allowing three goals in the first period pick up a point. Jonas Johansson stopped 39 of 43 shots.

Tampa Bay moves to 4-2-3 on the season and 4-0-2 at home. They picked up 8 out of a possible 10 points on the now completed homestand.

Brian Dumoulin, Yanni Gourde, Kailer Yamamoto each scored for the Kraken, all in the first period, and Philipp Grubauer stopped 34 of 37 shots for the Kraken who defeated the Lightning for the first time in franchise history. They had lost the previous four matchup with the Bolts being outscored 17-4 in those four losses. T

The frustrations for the Lightning in overtime continue as they dropped their third such decision this season. They have now lost 10 of their last 11 overtime contests including playoffs. During the three overtime losses this season they have been outshot in overtime 12-0.

While the overtime defeats may just be a mental hurdle the team will have to overcome, Lightning Coach Jon Cooper views it in a more simplistic manner. “It just comes down to you have to win faceoffs in overtime. If you’re not going to win faceoffs in overtime and you’re going to take penalties it’s really hard to do anything in overtime.”

The Lightning hit the road for a four-game road trip starting in Columbus on Thursday night where they will battle with the Blue Jackets at Nationwide Arena (7:00 pm puck drop).
