Clark Hunt thinks he is hamstrung about his stadium plans by John Sherman’s lack of decision.

There was a message sent from the National Football League’s Kansas City Chiefs’ owner Clark Hunt to the Major League Baseball’s Kansas City Royals owner John Sherman. Get your stadium plans done so I can move ahead with my plans at the Truman Sports Complex. The two Kansas City franchises share the complex with the baseball and football stadiums side by side. Sherman wants to build a stadium elsewhere and if he is does move out of the complex, there will be a massive empty space that can be filled after the baseball park is razed. That space could be turned into something, perhaps a football-stadium village.

“Our priority continues to be trying to figure out a way to renovate Arrowhead Stadium and extend its life,” Hunt said. “We’ve been in communication with the Royals, we’ve been waiting for them to make a decision as to whether they are going to stay in Jackson County or whether they are going to go to Clay County. Once they make a decision, that will help us with our process as we move forward. If the Royals do decide to stay in Jackson County, that’s going to be an issue that we’ve got to resolve. Our thinking has not changed, I’m sorry to say we have not made a lot of progress since the start of the season, but it is something we are focused on.” Sherman wanted to make his decision about the franchise’s future home, either in Kansas City in Jackson County, Missouri or North Kansas City, Missouri in Clay County. Sherman wants to build a stadium-village and needs taxpayers’ assistance in getting the plan executed. There seems to be some concern from Kansas City politicians in giving Sherman a handout to build the stadium and develop surrounding property. The baseball and football stadium game continues in Kansas City.
